C&C Generals Zero Hour: Enhanced brings the game's graphics to a modern visual level: new unit and building models, reworked textures, improved effects, highly detailed vegetation, quality water, updated lighting and an expanded particle system. The mod uses ReShade presets that add SSAO, bloom and god-rays, creating a noticeably more atmospheric picture.
In addition to graphics, gameplay has been reworked. The game's pace becomes slower and more realistic: buildings take longer to construct, units move more smoothly, vehicles have a chance to ricochet, and artillery receives increased range. Infantry gains more complex behavior models — can lie prone, provide suppressive fire, use additional weapon types and needs weapon reloading; it can no longer shoot indefinitely. New combat units and additional control elements appear, creating the mod's own tactical style.
Changes also affect strategy: elements of territory control similar to CoH appear, new fire rules are introduced, unit interactions are reworked, and the combat model becomes more "realistic" and slower compared to the original. This gives Zero Hour a completely different dynamic, distinct from the classic fast-paced arcade style. Together with deep graphical improvements, the mod essentially reimagines the game, making it a more modern tactical RTS.
Despite certain technical engine limitations, the scale of changes, content volume and overall visual level make Zero Hour: Enhanced one of the deepest and most ambitious projects for Generals Zero Hour.
