Half The Way: Russian Civil War is a total conversion for Doom II, transporting the action to early 20th-century Russia. The player takes the role of a White Army soldier amid the civil war, with an emphasis on story, historical atmosphere, and realism.
In Half The Way: Russian Civil War, you take on the role of Pavel Streletsky — a corporal in the Volunteer Army, a World War I veteran fighting under the command of Lavr Kornilov. The story explores the hero's personal tragedy and his involvement in brutal battles against the Bolsheviks, while the authors stress that the mod does not take sides in the conflict.
Special attention is paid to atmosphere. The mod features reconstructions of historical locations, a hallucination system inspired by soldiers' memories, and flashbacks that reveal the protagonist's inner world. NPCs live their own lives: they interact with one another, converse, and create the feeling of a living world.
