Nuclear Showdown is a compact yet content-rich gameplay mod for Duke Nukem 3D that acts more as an "enhancer" of the original game than a full overhaul. Unlike sweeping total conversions, it carefully improves the original experience by adding new features without radically altering the gameplay.
The mod introduces a variety of enemy variants — from beefed-up assault troopers to new types of Pig Cop and Enforcer, including flamethrower troops and kamikazes. Many opponents have also gained additional abilities. Cut content has been restored as well, such as the Pig Cop's melee attack.
The arsenal is significantly expanded: new weapons have been added, including the Desert Eagle, MP5K, and M60, as well as a Plasma Gun and other enhanced variations of the standard loadout. New items have also been introduced — for example, a vacuum suit, upgraded boots, and a backpack for carrying extra ammunition.
Improvements include footstep sounds, reworked damage effects, and smarter ammo pickup logic where surplus rounds are no longer lost. The mod is also designed for custom map playthroughs, including those that use custom resources, and even supports the official expansion Duke It Out in DC.
