Sweet Half-Life: Relit is an unofficial remaster of the Sweet Half-Life mod that makes it compatible with new versions of the game and includes reworked maps, weapons, monsters, effects, and much more.

Weapons

  • Crowbar: Right-click to build sandbags, which can be collected from a fallen Human Assault.

  • Glock 17: Semi-automatic. Right-click to attach a silencer.

  • Colt Python: Equipped with a scope and zoom function.

  • MP5: 30-round magazine with a slightly higher rate of fire.

  • Vulcan Minigun: Requires charging before firing. Hold right-click to keep charging.

  • Plasma Gun: Primary fire shoots normal plasma projectiles; secondary fire launches larger, explosive plasma shots.

  • Gluon Gun: Default mode is narrow beam; right-click to switch to wide beam mode.

  • P904: Special SMG with burst-fire mode by default and an attached grenade launcher.

  • Hand Grenade: Right-click to throw shorter distances.

  • Laser Tripmine: Right-click to disarm an armed tripmine.

  • Snark: Right-click to command snarks to attack a target.

Maps

  • All maps have been relit with modern RAD techniques.

  • Solid textures, like fences, now cast shadows.

  • Map bugs have been fixed.

  • Hints added to some maps for more intuitive gameplay.

Models

  • All models now cast shadows and reference the nearest light source.

Features

  • Explosive Barrels: Certain barrels ignite when shot and explode shortly after, similar to Half-Life 2.

  • Barnacles: Can now consume everything, including grenades and explosive barrels.

  • Reworked Bosses: Kingpin and Probe Boss redesigned for fairer gameplay. Mr. Friendly now appears as Kingpin’s sidekick.

  • Human Assault: Large enemy with minigun. Drops sandbags when killed.

  • HEV Scientist: Armed scientists that can shoot. Can carry Python, Gauss, MP5, or Shotgun and drop them when defeated. Includes scientist heads + Enigma.

  • Human Grunt: Commanders drop a radio that players can use to call an airstrike. A special variant using the M16 appears in the Race Mothership.

  • Probe: Fires plasma and explodes upon death.

  • Race: Alien equipped with a Plasma Gun. More durable than usual.

  • Collectible Medkits and Batteries can be stored for later use (set the USE key in Keyboard options).

How to install a mod Sweet Half-Life: Relit

  1. Extract the shl_relit folder and place it into the root directory of the game.

  2. Launch the game, go to the Change game menu, and select the mod.

  3. Play!

To avoid entering the "Change game" menu every time you start the mod, you can:

Option 1: Launch via shortcut

  1. Go to the properties of hl.exe and in the Target field (for example: "D:\Games\Half-Life\hl.exe") add a space and then write -game followed by the name of the mod folder in the game root directory. It should look like this: "D:\Games\Half-Life\hl.exe" -game mod_folder_name

  2. Apply the changes.

  3. Launch the mod using this shortcut.

Option 2: Launch via Steam

  1. Open Steam, click on the "Games" menu > "Add a Non-Steam Game".

  2. Browse to the game folder and select hl.exe.

  3. A shortcut will appear in your library.

  4. Right-click on it, select Properties, and in the "Launch Options" field write the full path to hl.exe (for example: "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life\hl.exe") and add -game plus the mod folder name after a space. It should look like this: "D:\Games\Half-Life\hl.exe" -game mod_folder
