- Release Date:2002
- Genres:Racing, Simulation
- Developer:Razorworks
- Publisher:Empire Interactive
- Platforms:PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Macintosh
Total Immersion Racing is a racing simulator released in 2002 by Razorworks and published by Empire Interactive. The game was positioned as a realistic circuit racing simulator with licensed cars and tracks.
Compared to contemporaries like Gran Turismo 3 and Sega GT 2002, Total Immersion Racing offered a narrower but richer experience, focusing on professional racing and handling cars from three classes: GT, GTS, and prototypes. A key feature was an advanced AI system: opponents had individual driving styles and "memory" that could affect their behavior during races.
Gameplay included various modes — a career with gradual progression, single races, time trials, and challenges, giving players plenty of options for long hours behind the wheel. Both real and fictional tracks were featured, adding variety.
Despite interesting ideas and well-designed cars, the game received mixed reviews. Critics noted the game felt simplified compared to top simulators and sometimes suffered from graphical and optimization issues. Nevertheless, many players appreciated its depth and challenge, especially PC racing fans.
Regarding the modding community, it never really formed. The lack of official tools and a closed engine nearly excluded user-made mods. Today, Total Immersion Racing remains a rare and little-known game with almost no active modding scene.
