Pro:Gen is a mod created as an expansion of the original Generals Zero Hour without departing from its atmosphere. At its core is the restoration of content that EA studio initially planned but never implemented in the final version of the game. The most notable addition was two new boss generals — Ironside for the USA and Deathstrike for the GLA. Both had their own prototype units and features but were left in the game's resources in an unfinished state. Pro:Gen makes them full-fledged factions and introduces them into battle modes and the campaign.
Boss Leang, who was only present in story missions, now also becomes a full participant in battle: she has been given her own technologies and unit sets, rather than a mixed selection from three sides as in the original. Thanks to this, all bosses feel distinctive and logically fit into Zero Hour's strategic system.
The story portion has also been expanded: the mod returns missions cut from final builds and adds a set of custom scenarios, which in total increases the campaign to several dozen missions for all sides of the conflict. The structure of the Generals Challenge has also been reworked — now the player fights against a larger number of opponents, and faction choice affects who becomes the final adversary.
Additionally, the modification updates AI behavior. Generals act more actively, make better use of their unique features and tactics, allowing for a significant increase in difficulty for experienced players.
The visual aspect has also undergone changes: new effects have been added, vehicle models updated, animations reworked, and music partially replaced. New weapons have appeared, including previously hidden superweapons that can now be fully utilized on the battlefield.
With all this, Pro:Gen adheres to a philosophy of targeted improvements. It doesn't turn the game into a total conversion but works as an expansion of the original Zero Hour — careful, consistent, and focused on preserving that classic Generals atmosphere. Хотя разработка мода завершена, энтузиасты продолжили её под названием Pro Gen Mod: Unofficial Extension.
