This engine serves as the foundation for running all three games of the classic Marathon trilogy (Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, Marathon Infinity) on modern hardware with additional enhancements not present in the originals.
The Aleph One project began after Bungie released the Marathon 2 source code in 1999, allowing enthusiasts to port and develop the engine for modern systems. Today, Aleph One runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux, supporting online multiplayer, OpenGL rendering, widescreen displays, 60+ fps, Lua scripting, and a wealth of community-created scenarios and mods.
