Half-Life: Extended is a large mod for Half-Life that expands the original campaign by combining content from Blue Shift and Opposing Force, adding new levels, reworking NPCs and maps, and increasing world detail. The campaign has become larger and more varied, making Half-Life: Extended feel like an almost entirely new game.

C&C: Brute Force is a mod for Yuri's Revenge that turns the game into a kind of Tower Defense: you start with minimal forces, defend against endless waves of Yuri's minions, find random supplies, and gradually strengthen your base to eventually reach the dictator himself.

Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is a Chinese developers' attempt to create that very sequel to Generals that was never released.
