Freeserf is a project aimed at recreating the game engine of the first part of The Settlers I (Serf City, 1993). The remake reproduces the familiar gameplay - settlement building, resource management, courier work, logistics, and economy remain almost unchanged, preserving the nostalgic spirit and atmosphere of the original.

Despite the game’s age, it is still great fun to play: build your own kingdom, explore the territory, and watch the tireless little settlers work for you.

At present, the development of the original project has been halted, but forks such as freeserf.net and Forkserf have appeared, featuring advanced AI, map generation, new features, and modding support.

How to install an engine Freeserf

  1. Install the engine into any folder.

  2. Copy the data file from the original game into the same folder as freeserf.

    • Alternatively, you can place the data file in ~/.local/share/freeserf.

  3. You can use the data file from the DOS or Amiga version of the game.
