QuakeSpasm supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, as well as 64-bit processors. It features improved performance, stability, and numerous bug fixes. QuakeSpasm uses SDL1.2 or SDL2 (the latter providing smoother mouse input and better compatibility with newer operating systems).
Key features include support for widescreen and ultrawide displays, modern controls (including freelook), improved audio and external music playback (MP3, OGG, FLAC). Gamepad support is also present (in the SDL2 version), including Xbox 360-style controllers.
QuakeSpasm is fully compatible with a vast number of mods and allows loading them directly during gameplay. The engine is an open-source project, which allows the community to continue developing and improving it.
It is one of the most popular ways to play classic Quake today — with modern convenience, but without losing the original spirit.
