Black Ops is a single-player mod for Half-Life where you play as an agent of the elite Black Operations unit. Your mission is to eliminate the rogue scientist, the elusive Gallagher, and then return to Black Mesa with a bomb. The mod stands out with its vivid stylization — graphic comics instead of cutscenes, as well as atmospheric urban locations.

Black Ops is a story-driven mod for Half-Life, whose events begin in urban locations like Metro City, including nightclubs, warehouses, and subway systems, designed in a dark, atmospheric style that differs from the familiar Black Mesa interiors. Active use of textures from the Poke646 mod gives these areas a special urban charm — and this truly makes this project stand out among other modifications.

The interface received a signature design: red HUD, night vision, and the Black Ops emblem give the game a classic comic book stylization. This visual style enhances the atmosphere of secret operations and emphasizes the espionage theme.

The story is presented through graphic novels at the end of levels — simple but original inserts that add visual and emotional color. They fit organically into the Half-Life aesthetic and compensate for the modder's limited resources.

However, the plot sometimes seems confusing, and the narrative develops too slowly, which reduces the game's dynamics. Many missions boil down to constantly searching for targets and repeating tasks, which can cool interest in the story.

At times, there are gaps in logic and stylization — for example, weapon selection that doesn't always correspond to the spy operations theme.

The gameplay is ambiguous: some moments allowed you to feel like a secret agent, especially thanks to the silenced pistol, but overall the weaponry remained basic, and the mod doesn't fully reveal the potential of stealth mechanics.

Visually, the mod pleasantly surprises with atmospheric locations — particularly impressive are episodes on night city streets with neon glow, stormy rain at subway stations, and ominous corridors filled with thick darkness and anxious atmosphere.
