Hard-Life is a mod for Half-Life focused on increasing difficulty and reworking gameplay. Enemies become more aggressive, intelligent, and deadly, while their usual placement is changed so that even experienced players must constantly stay alert.
Hard-Life was created with the goal of updating and complicating the original game. Instead of simply increasing health and damage, the mod reworks artificial intelligence, forcing opponents to use cover, change positions, and shoot more accurately. Human enemies act in coordination, using diverse weapons, while aliens become more aggressive and prone to hit-and-run tactics.
Additionally, new enemies have been added to the game, manually placed to increase pressure on the player while not disrupting the original game's pace. New elements have been introduced that correspond to the original spirit of the game or were even in Hard-Life's concept art: allies and enemies can use more deadly weapons and have greater variety, making firefights more interesting without breaking the classic game rhythm.
Many innovations are integrated so organically that the player may not even notice that some elements were added by the modification — they look like a natural part of Half-Life.
