In Mute Witness Stand is a mod for Half-Life set during World War I. You play as British soldiers fighting in the trenches against the German army and an army of the dead, raised by experimental chemical weapons.
In Mute Witness Stand is a single-player and cooperative mod for Half-Life that transports players into the horrors of World War I. You take on the role of British soldiers who have gone through real historical campaigns and battlefields: the Somme, Gallipoli, Gaza, Passchendaele, and other key points of the Great War.
In addition to confronting the German army, players will face an army of the dead, raised by new chemical weapons deployed by the British military. Among the enemies are Undead Tommies, Trench Crawlers, rats, rabbits, and other horrifying creatures, as well as enemy machine gun nests, snipers, artillery, and mines.
The mod emphasizes atmosphere, tactical gameplay, and cooperative interaction. The game features a limited reinforcement system that encourages cautious play and teamwork. The maps change the familiar rhythm of Half-Life - instead of frontal assaults, players clear houses, hold positions, or storm fortified areas.
The arsenal includes historically accurate British weapons and equipment: Enfield rifles, Mark I tanks, boats, gas masks, and explosives for destroying targets. The mod implements a unit system where character models and appearance correspond to specific divisions and campaigns, including the 36th Ulster Division and the 4th Australian Light Horse Regiment.
In Mute Witness Stand combines the realism of trench warfare with elements of horror and the supernatural, offering an unusual and grim perspective on the events of 1914-1918 within the classic Half-Life engine. The release date is unknown, but Shelley, the mod's author, is very actively sharing her progress, so there's a high chance that sooner or later she will bring the project to release.
