The Last Bullet Updated is a standalone remake of the same-named Half-Life mod, inspired by Return to Castle Wolfenstein, built on the Xash3D engine. The mod moves the action to 1946, where you play as a Soviet special agent going up against Nazi occultists, exploring secret laboratories, and fighting mutants and aliens.

Only the name remains from the original The Last Bullet: Updated delivers a full campaign with an expanded story, reworked maps, and a new arsenal.
The year is 1946. Germany has been crushed, but in the mountain castle of Wittrinkat in the north of the country, a Nazi faction called "Cobra" has taken hold, led by Professor Friedrich Hartmann, known as "Dead Eye." His main project is a secret development codenamed "Iron Heart." The international organization RedStar deploys sabotage unit "Omega" into the castle, but it goes dark. Soviet special agent Viktor Baklazhanovitch, callsign "Shadow," is sent in to help — shortly after insertion he is captured, escapes with the help of a mole inside the enemy ranks, and begins his assault.
The first half of the campaign channels the spirit of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: a medieval castle, a snow-covered town, underground catacombs. The combat system demands an aggressive playstyle — enemies are resilient and attack in numbers, so you must make active use of the full arsenal and grenades. Ammunition and medkits are plentiful, but the game won't let you get too comfortable.
Available weapons include: a Luger, STG-44, MP40, rifle, revolver, shotgun — indispensable against zombies in the catacombs — a six-barrel minigun, and an alien plasma rifle, the most powerful weapon in the game, limited only by its ammunition. Levels are packed with hidden secrets, and notes found along the way contain text clues required to progress.
Sound design is one of the mod's strong suits: howling wind, creaking ancient walls, and grinding metal create an uneasy, almost mystical atmosphere. The soundtrack is assembled from remixes of Wolfenstein 3D themes and original tracks, sounding especially strong during the final boss fight.
The mod is not without rough edges — the visual style in the second half suffers from a clash of textures from different eras, first from Quake, then from Serious Sam, and the voice acting leaves something to be desired. Nevertheless, The Last Bullet Updated delivers a punchy and dynamic shooter with the unique opportunity to play as a Soviet agent in an occult World War II setting — and that alone makes it worth your attention.
