Wasteland

Wasteland is a cult post-apocalyptic role-playing game released in 1988 by Interplay Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The game was one of the first representatives of the tactical RPG genre with turn-based combat and laid the foundation for later post-apocalyptic RPGs, including the legendary Fallout.

Compared to other games of its time, Wasteland stood out with its deep story, nonlinear open-world exploration, and complex character progression system. Players controlled a squad of survivors in a world devastated by nuclear war, solving numerous tactical challenges and making morally difficult decisions.

The gameplay combined RPG and strategy elements with turn-based battles, where tactics and resource management were crucial. The graphics were simple, matching the technical capabilities of the late 1980s, but the atmosphere and immersion made the game a classic of the genre.

At release, the game received high praise for its innovative approach and depth, although due to technical limitations and difficulty, it remained niche and not always accessible to a broad audience.

Nevertheless, thanks to fan attention and the revival of the series, the franchise continues to evolve, remaining one of the iconic titles in the post-apocalyptic RPG genre.
