Compared to earlier games in the genre, Wolfenstein 3D offered revolutionary gameplay with fast-paced action, a 3D first-person perspective, and simple but engaging level design. The player takes on the role of agent William Blazkowicz, fighting the Nazi army in Castle Wolfenstein.
Players enjoyed the dynamic gameplay, atmospheric level design, and iconic enemies. The game received high praise for its innovation and became a classic of the genre, setting a trend for many subsequent FPS titles.
Regarding modding, the original version of the game had limited modding capabilities due to technical restrictions, but over time the community created many custom levels and modifications, maintaining interest in the game even decades after its release.
