Command & Conquer: New War transports the game's events to an alternative timeline. The mod's plot is based on the premise that Yuri's defeat in the original game was not final: a mysterious group rescues him from the chrono-chamber, creating a temporal paradox and a new reality where another war begins between the Alliance, Soviets, Yuri's forces, and a new technological corporation, Nova Industry & Tech.
After the destruction of Nova's main laboratory, both great powers—the Soviets and the Alliance—are blamed for the catastrophe. In response, Nova announces a severance of all ties and disappears, leaving behind powerful technologies that different sides of the conflict begin to use. In the new timeline, scientists, mercenaries, and surviving elites manipulate the past and future to change the course of history, while Einstein attempts to stop the uncontrolled interference with space-time.
The mod significantly expands the original game by adding new factions and subfactions, unique units and structures, and reworking the economy and balance. All armies have received updated technology trees, and Yuri has become a fully playable side. The mod's campaign includes original missions, such as "Time Break," dedicated to conflicts in the altered temporal reality.
The mod runs on the ARES engine using Phobos and Dynamic Patcher extensions, which enables improved AI, new modes, and online play through CnCNet.
Command & Conquer: New War continues the idea of "World War III" between the Alliance, Soviets, and Yuri, immersing the classic strategy in a new war where the fate of the world is decided by new technologies and temporal paradoxes.
