After testing multiple translation engines, DeepL performed very poorly — in my opinion, even worse than Google.

However, I tested another candidate: Azure Translator. The results were near perfect across the board. Based on this testing, Azure appears to be significantly more accurate and reliable than DeepL.

Changes in this version:

DeepL has been replaced with the Azure translation engine.

Important:

You will still need an API key. Additionally, you must specify the region where the API key was created to ensure it matches your configuration settings that you set on Azure and the ini file so they match.

• Added ability to change translation engine from Google To DeepL if you have your own API key

• TemplateMessages has been increased from 5 to 10

Installation:

Delete previous version of BetterChat and delete BetterChat.ini - new ini file will be created upon game launch and choosing your native language

• Increased the maximum message length to 120 characters. (If the text is over 75 characters - your message will be sent as 2 messages) And if F10 is ON it changes to 100 to prevent long translation overflow

• Added 44 new emotes, including static, animated, and new wide emojis.

• Improved Visibility of some emotes

• Added Turkish to the supported translator languages.

• Improved emote filtering logic.

• Emoji menu is now disabled for text-based emoticons like :D, :P, and :/...

• Added more changeable keybinds in the ini file

• Added detection if you are in lobby or race and made if you are in lobby chat stays open after hitting enter, while in race it closes

• _Fixed Emojis being translated, now they wont.

• New Option "DrawBubbles" Adds a black curvy background behind messages for better visibility, can be turned on/off in ini file

• Minor Code Improvements

Installation:

Put all the files from .zip into flatouts directory folder.

If Updating:

Delete old BetterChat .asi file

(ini file has been renamed to BetterChat.ini instead of flatout_chat.ini, so you dont need to delete flatout_chat.ini file, if anything you can port your settings into the new file - new file will be created upon game launch)

• Added Emoji support (static and animated) - all emojis 98, animated 17.

• Added a F8 keybind to hide messages of other players when chat is closed

• Improved math logic for text wrapping (drawing and height calculation)

• Added support for custom font (you can change the font in ini file)

• Added Templates Messages! (3 templates you can assign your hotkeys and custom text to send messages quickly - you can edit those in ini file)

• Added ability to scroll chat with Page UP and Page Down

• Updated //help command

• Other small improvements.

BetterChat.bfs was not updated, just here in case you still need it (bfs is for vanilla fo2 to remove the original chat from lobby)

Replace BetterChatV1.03.asi file and delete flatout_chat.ini file, a new one will be created when the game will start for the first time.

As for now i think this will be the last update, unless in future some new ideas come in

• Added Auto Detect translation of others!

• New Keybind F12 to disable/enable automatic detection of language of translation others

• Changed text limit from 79 to 75 to avoid cutting off text sometimes.

• Updated bad translation detection (translation needs to be less than 85% different to appear in the chat, otherwise it gets hidden if its very similar to original message - will fix translation sometimes appearing for messages it shouldnt translate, unfortunately that will work worse for when you translate to your RU language because of transliterations). (Translation will never be perfect guys, unfortunately there is so many limits i work with, atleast we have it i guess :D)

Updated welcome screen and added "//help" command if you need any help remembering the keybinds or you need to know more information how everything works

• Added A Welcome Screen when you first launch the mod and choose your language

• Updated Sticker in top left corner when translation is On, now when you Translate your own messages it will show (!) next to example: TR:[ru]

• Added translation for Spanish and German.

• Improved how ID works and prevented further confusion for the users with the IDs

(BetterChat.bfs is the same file as before, it was not updated)

Make sure you replace flatout_chat.ini with the new version and replace BetterChat.asi with new version BetterChatV1.01.asi
