The mod includes a large number of fixes and quality-of-life improvements. Various audiovisual inconsistencies have been corrected, several animations and weapon behaviors have been reworked, and UI elements and the PDA have been improved. The flashlight now points directly at the center of the screen, grenades are less bouncy, and the shotgun reloads one shell at a time, making weapon behavior more realistic.

D3EE also adds modern technical features — widescreen resolution support and correct aspect ratio handling, improved loading screens, updated menu elements, and other visual refinements.

The mod offers two balance options: one with altered ammo distribution, and one with the original balance. In the reworked balance version, certain ammo types are less common, the Chaingun's ammo capacity is increased, and the Soul Cube requires more souls to activate.

Difficulty adjustments are also part of the package. On higher difficulty levels, armor absorbs damage more effectively, but enemies deal more damage, making combat more intense. The final boss fight against the Cyberdemon has also been made harder, with additional demons appearing during the battle.

Overall, Doom 3 Enhanced Edition is one of the best ways to play Doom 3, combining numerous fixes, balance improvements, and modern technical features while preserving the atmosphere and gameplay of the original game.
