BREACH is a Doom mod that turns the game into an ultra-realistic tactical shooter. Forget about demons: you're in for brutal close-quarters combat in confined spaces, realistic ballistics, breaching doors with C4, blinding flashbangs, night vision devices, and advanced enemy AI.

BREACH is an ambitious modification that brings modern tactical sim mechanics into the framework of the iconic 1993 Doom engine. The author completely abandons the fantasy setting and demons, turning the game into a hardcore, immersive special forces operator simulator.

The mod changes the rules of the game entirely: instead of mindlessly running and gunning, you're in for careful planning, angle control, and a high cost for mistakes. Movement has become more deliberate and tactical while retaining smooth controls. The player has access to an impressive arsenal of more than 10 types of modern firearms, including the Glock, Kimber 1911, MK18, MP5, MCX, as well as the Benelli and Mossberg shotguns, all with unique inspection animations. An honest reload system with magazine tracking has been implemented, along with different fire modes and smooth aiming through iron sights or optics using authentic red dot and holographic sights.

Special equipment is available for breaching rooms:

  • C4 explosives: sticky charges can be placed on walls or ceilings and detonated with a remote detonator.

  • Flashbang grenades: feature a realistic blinding effect, temporarily whiting out the screen and creating a deafening ringing sound.

  • Advanced night vision device: a customizable night vision shader with three modes (Blue Phosphor, Modern Warfare, and Classic Green).

BREACH's locations move away from the abstract architecture of the '90s toward photorealism. Players will clear out highly detailed locations such as a training killhouse, an embassy, an art gallery, an unfinished skyscraper with an emphasis on vertical gameplay, and a fully recreated Abbottabad (Pakistan) compound known from Operation Neptune Spear. The world is interactive: glass shatters in all directions, doors are blown off their hinges by explosions, and stairs can be climbed.

The player faces off against smart mercenaries. Enemies have their own gear, an advanced hitbox-based hit registration system, flashbang shock mechanics, and realistic ragdoll death physics.

Visually, the game looks stunning thanks to the integration of high-poly 3D models, custom smoke effects, ejecting shell casings, ricochet sparks, and bullet holes left behind after shooting. This is a genuine technological breakthrough for an old engine! However, BREACH's release date is still unknown.
