Halo: Doom Evolved is a large-scale mod for GZDoom that brings the Halo universe into Doom. Expect over 54 weapon types with realistic animations and alternate fire modes, 3 unique Spartan classes each with their own movement mechanics (from bunny hopping to grappling hooks), and 8 flexible arsenal customization modes.

Halo: Doom Evolved is a mod that deeply blends Doom's classic meaty gameplay with Halo's mechanics and sandbox.

Character classes and mobility

Three generations of Spartans are available to choose from (plus a regular Marine for classic fans), each dramatically changing your movement style across levels:

  • Spartan II: focused on classic Doom-style gameplay, offering flexible air control and the ability to bunny hop.

  • Spartan III: emphasizes aggressive melee combat. Has increased health but fragile shields that instantly regenerate after a melee hit on an enemy. Also trained in double jumping and dashes.

  • Spartan IV: relies on caution and tactics. Their arsenal includes slides to escape fire and a full grappling hook that works just like in Halo Infinite — it can be used to pull yourself to walls or drag lighter enemies toward you.

Weapon arsenal and balance

The mod features a colossal arsenal of over 54 weapon types, recreated from scratch as high-quality 2D sprites. Every gun comes with an alternate fire mode, a unique melee strike, and smooth reload animation. The weapons are integrated into Doom's gore system, making them feel incredibly powerful.

The game offers 8 arsenal customization options: from strict sets tied to specific parts of the franchise (Halo CE, 2, 3, 4/5) to the hardcore Spartan Overkill loadout and a joke Star Wars mode with infinite energy. By default, weapon carrying is limited (only 2 guns at a time), forcing constant weapon swaps while hunting for ammo, though this can be disabled in the settings.

Attention to Detail and Development

The developers treated the lore with great respect: instead of standard colored keycards, the mod uses Halo Indexes or UNSC passes. When interacting with locked doors, the Master Chief pulls up Cortana on his palm to hack the terminal, and cool kills are accompanied by the hero's amusing one-liners.

Halo: Doom Evolved is well balanced and compatible with most third-party maps and monster packs, allowing you to build the perfect, endlessly replayable Halo sandbox inside Doom.

Halo: Doom Evolved was originally planned as a total conversion — alongside the heroes and weapons, a full campaign was meant to be added, following the story of a group of heretics who tried to open a gate to Hell during the war. However, due to a shortage of mappers, the campaign was cancelled. After finishing work on Halo: Doom Evolved, the team announced their next project — Marathon Excalibur, a crossover between Doom and Marathon.
