Hideous Destructor is a mod for Doom that transforms the game into a brutal survival simulator: slow-paced gameplay, lethally dangerous enemies, realistic shooting mechanics, and bleeding. If you don't use cover and carefully manage your inventory, you'll have no chance of survival.

Hideous Destructor completely changes Doom's gameplay, turning it into a harsh, realistic, and tactically oriented survival simulator. The game takes on a slow, tense pace, forcing you to carefully plan every move: Doomguy now moves like an ordinary human, shooting while running is extremely difficult, and every mistake can be fatal, as enemies can kill you with a single shot. Each wound can cause bleeding that requires time and resources to treat, and exhaustion or improper use of medical kits can finish you off.
Inventory management is manual: to use medical kits or pick up items, you need to browse through slots, and healing and health restoration happen gradually. Bleeding, burns, and injuries affect vision, weapon stability, and movement speed, requiring careful action planning. Survival mechanics include fatigue, the risk of wounds reopening, and the necessity to carefully choose cover and positions.
The mod's weapons are powerful but complex to control: some guns require charging up, proper aiming, and recoil control; there are unique mechanics like ammo recycling, drone usage, underbarrel grenade launchers, and weapons with alternative fire modes. Basic canonical weapons, including the chainsaw and super shotgun, are preserved, but all are harmonized with the mod's tactical realism — for example, the chainsaw needs time to start up, and it cannot run indefinitely; after running for some time, it simply stops starting up.
Hideous Destructor preserves Doom's aesthetic — demons, zombies, fireballs, and iconic levels — but makes the hero vulnerable and human, where every enemy encounter requires attentiveness, tactics, and strategic thinking. If you love challenges and games like Dark Souls and Arma, this mod, along with Live Through DOOM, could be a real revelation for you.
Weapons:
Fists: Representing unarmed combat, players can swing the mouse while punching to deal devastating damage and otherwise beat the crap out of Hell's forces by pummeling them. Worth noting that this tool also allows falling without taking damage and dragging objects.
Pistol: A simple 9x22mm pistol, this weapon is the basic sidearm and a good option for breaking through the hellish shields that most bosses have.
Revolver: A .355 caliber pistol that works similarly to the pistol. Can be loaded with 9x22mm if .355 is unavailable.
H&K MP-46: A 9x22mm submachine gun. Essentially a pistol, but much more rapid-fire and with a larger magazine.
ZM66: A 4.26mm assault rifle with a large magazine that occasionally jams. Can mount a grenade launcher. The 4.26mm bullet penetrates armor well, very effective against flesh, but very poor against shields.
ZM7: A 7.76mm battle rifle known as the "Liberator". A more conventional rifle. Ammo is powerful but rare.
Mk. IV Boss: A 7.76mm bolt-action rifle, once added as a joke. Matches the ZM7 in power but much slower and prone to jamming.
SPOS E-28: A 12-gauge dual-mode shotgun. Deals heavy damage to unarmored targets but performs poorly on protected enemies.
Cav. Arms SL41: A 12-gauge double-barrel shotgun. Even more damage, and can pose a threat to lightly armored enemies. Fast reload under stress.
Mk. III Vulcanette: A 4.26mm six-barrel machine gun. Has the ability to penetrate or cut. Heavy but resistant to jamming.
H&K UA Series Rocket Launcher: A six-shot grenade launcher also capable of loading large-caliber HEAT ammunition.
Mk. VII Brontornis: A single-shot 35mm API "cannon" capable of killing mid-tier enemies with one shot.
Mk. XI Thunder Buster: A plasma cannon with two anti-personnel/material fire modes. Primary fire makes everything explode, while Alt fire mode turns it into an energy assault rifle dealing fragmentation damage.
Mk. 1337 BFG: Kills a room full of barons with one shot and has technically unlimited ammo.
Tips for Beginners:
Use slot 9 or look down if you're bleeding.
Use first aid kits to stop bleeding.
Press the reload key to reload your weapon (hold the key to avoid dropping the magazine).
Press the unload key (user4) to extract rounds from your current weapon.
Press the alternative reload and fire mode keys (user1 and user2) to use specific alternative functions of your weapon (details in the manual).
Press or hold the use/open door key to pick up items and engage in melee combat.
Press the user3 key to load or consolidate magazines or batteries.
Hold the jump key before a low ledge to climb over it.
Hold the run/walk key to sprint.
Stop and hold the use/open door key to view your entire inventory.

How to install a mod Hideous Destructor
To run the mod, you will need the GZDoom engine and doom.wad, doom2.wad, or one of the FreeDoom IWADs
Make sure that doom.wad / doom2.wad or freedoom1.wad / freedoom2.wad is located in the GZDoom folder
Move the mod's .pk3 file to the GZDoom folder
Drag and drop the .pk3 file onto gzdoom.exe
(Optional) Also drag the additional BDAEHelmetMugshot.wad file along with the main .pk3 file to use the alternative Helmet Mugshot.
Play!
You can also create a Launcher.bat. This is useful for launching more complex mod builds where the loading order of mods is important, or to launch the game via a shortcut.
How to create a launcher for running mods based on GZDoom
Create a text file in the GZDoom folder, you can name it Launcher. The text can look like this, depending on which files you're using:
gzdoom.exe -iwad freedoom2.wad -file "brutalv22test4.pk3"-iwad must always be first, and the number of files after -file can be unlimited, just write them in quotes separated by spaces, like this:
gzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file "addon1.pk3" "addon2.pk3" "addon3.pk3" "addon4.pk3"Change its format from .txt to .bat by simply renaming it. Now you can launch your builds with a double-click on this launcher.
