Improvisation — an absurdist Doom mod that completely strips you of firearms. Fight demons with whatever's on hand: from a frying pan to soda cans! The mod offers a deep on-the-fly weapon modification system, crafting, and microwave cooking for powerful buffs.

Improvisation turns familiar Doom on its head. The main feature of this gameplay mod is a total departure from conventional firearms. Instead, you'll have to survive using creativity and a crazy arsenal of household items, which the mod's creator literally photographed at home and turned into game sprites.
Basic survival arsenal
Ordinary objects in your hands become deadly weapons:
Baseball bat: a starting weapon whose alt-fire mode lets you launch a hail of balls at enemies.
Grinder: works like a machine gun. You crank the grinder's handle and fire the "pâté" that comes out of it, while the alt-attack hurls the entire unground mass at the enemy.
Megaphone: strikes enemies with sound waves at long range. Alt-fire throws the megaphone at enemies, dealing area damage.
Lamp cartridge: strikes with electricity and allows powerful combo explosions in the style of the iconic Shock Rifle from Unreal Tournament.
Soda: shaken soda cans ricochet off walls and explode right in demons' faces.
Lawnmower: fires cutting blades; its alt-fire is slower-firing but deals area damage.
Hammer: can drive nails at a furious rate or drive nails into the ground to serve as mines.
Frying pan: crushes skulls in melee combat.
Wild modifications and crafting
Simple items are completely transformed by the upgrade system. Every weapon has two modifier slots (such as Grow, Flame, Light) that can be instantly swapped mid-combat using the zoom key.
Combinations create pure absurdity: the Grow mod turns a soda can into a giant projectile, and the megaphone into a devastating weapon capable of out-shouting a crowd of monsters. But the hammer shines brightest: with the Grow mod, the hero literally builds an entire house and then kicks it at enemies, while another modifier summons a pickup truck that runs monsters over. You can also duct-tape dynamite to your weapons or assemble a humidifier to create thunderclouds.
Cooking
Health and armor must be earned through full-fledged cooking. You gather spinach, steaks, chicken, and energy drinks to combine in the microwave:
A hearty meal (chicken + spinach) restores 150 health points.
A roast (steak + vegetables) grants a maximum of 250 health and 200 armor.
A steak sandwich temporarily turns you into a Hulk-like state with 300 health: you can crush enemies with your bare fists and unleash earth-shaking shockwaves.
Interface and blueprints
A special workbench unlocks a blueprint system — you can build sandbag barricades, create supply crates, or set up stationary turrets.
The entire visual style is kept in a "DIY" spirit: the in-game menu looks like crumpled sheets of paper with handwritten notes, and armor pieces are assembled junk. Notably, the sturdiest armor set here is made of old Nokia phones bound together with duct tape — perhaps the only realistic detail in this mod.
How to install a mod Improvisation
To run the mod, you will need the UZDoom engine and doom.wad, doom2.wad, or one of the FreeDoom IWADs
Make sure that doom.wad / doom2.wad or freedoom1.wad / freedoom2.wad is located in the UZDoom folder
Move the mod's .pk3 file to the UZDoom folder
Drag and drop the .pk3 file onto uzdoom.exe
Play!
You can also create a Launcher.bat. This is useful for launching more complex mod builds where the loading order of mods is important, or to launch the game via a shortcut.
How to create a launcher for running mods based on GZDoom
Create a text file in the UZDoom folder, you can name it Launcher. The text can look like this, depending on which files you're using:
uzdoom.exe -iwad freedoom2.wad -file "brutalv22test4.pk3"-iwad must always be first, and the number of files after -file can be unlimited, just write them in quotes separated by spaces, like this:
uzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file "addon1.pk3" "addon2.pk3" "addon3.pk3" "addon4.pk3"Change its format from .txt to .bat by simply renaming it. Now you can launch your builds with a double-click on this launcher.
