GZDoom is a game engine based on Doom, created to run Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Strife and mods for them. It supports hardware 3D acceleration and OpenGL and Vulkan renderers, advanced graphics capabilities, ZScript, high frame rates, an improved sound system and extensive modding possibilities.

GZDoom works on all modern versions of Windows (from Vista to Windows 11), as well as on Mac and Linux. The engine supports all Doom engine games, including Ultimate Doom, Doom II, Heretic, Hexen, Strife, and others, with complete translations into more than twenty languages and Unicode support for Latin, Cyrillic, and Hangul scripts.
It is compatible with Hexen editing features (ACS, hubs, new map format) and Boom, and extends them with capabilities such as: colored lighting, 3D floors, portals, advanced polyobjects, custom monsters, weapons, items and player classes, high-resolution textures and sprites, transparency, extended ACS functions.
GZDoom supports numerous formats: music (Ogg Vorbis, MOD, XM, IT, S3M, MIDI, MP3, MUS), sounds (FLAC, WAVE), graphics (PNG, JPEG). The engine removes the limitations of the original Doom, adds high resolution, Quake-style console and keys, crosshair, freelook, jumping, crouching, swimming and flying.
Full support for joysticks and gamepads, network games for up to 8 players via UDP/IP (including team mode), interaction with monsters and objects in space, as well as support for the Bloodbath announcer from the classic game Blood.
