Serflings is a remake of the classic strategy The Settlers 1 (or Serf City), faithfully reproducing the original gameplay while adding modern conveniences: support for high resolutions, network games, compatibility with original save files, and much more.

Serflings is a great way to relive memories of the classic game with enhanced graphics and new features.

You may use the following additional keys:

  • 1 - 5: Buttons in south panel

  • 0: Reset game speed to default

You may pass the following command line arguments to the game:

  • --enable-preview: Activates preview mode for new functions which are still in development

  • --validate-data: Executes a simple check for the original game data

  • --system-info: Displays internal information about the environment of Java and the identified hardware

How to install an engine Serflings

  1. Extract the files to any folder.

  2. Copy the data file from the original game to the same folder as Serflings.

    • Alternatively, you can place the data file in ~/.local/share/Serflings

  3. You can use the data file from either the DOS or Amiga game version.

    • In the DOS version, the data file is named SPAE.PA, SPAD.PA, SPAF.PA, or SPAU.PA depending on the game language.

    • In the Amiga version, these are the files gfxheader, gfxfast, gfxchip, gfxpics, sounds, music.

  4. Play!

If the History Edition was installed in the default path, copying is not required.

The game will look for files in the following paths in the given order:

  1. Current directory; usually the location of the exe or jar file.

  2. Subdirectory data.

  3. (Windows only) Default path for History Edition: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\games\thesettlers\loca

The remake is compatible with both DOS version files and History Edition files.
