Mod for FlatOut (2004) | Category: Total overhauls
A major mod that significantly improves the original FlatOut. It reworks the career mode and car physics, adds a new soundtrack (including tracks from FlatOut 2 and Ultimate Carnage), new modes from Ultimate Carnage, as well as cars and tracks from FlatOut 2 and Retro Demo, 4-player split-screen, working multiplayer and much more.

I've installed this mod on a fresh v1.1. The .exe doesn't even start but creates a d3d9 .log file which complains about Vulkan. I have an NVIDIA Geforce 460 SE which doesn't support Vulkan.
After deleting the d3d9.dll the game starts but when starting a race it crashes with a fatal I/O error. I'm guessing because the .dll is missing.
Please somebody confirm my finding and if this mod truly does not work with older GPUs lacking Vulkan support, put a warning in the Description!
Sometimes, when switching to a beta version in Steam, files from the newer version remain. Therefore, it is recommended to manually delete the game folder and then download the beta version again. If you uninstall it through the Steam interface, the game is not removed completely.
If that doesn’t help, then you’re probably right. Overall, mods in the Chloe Collection series are quite finicky.
Well, I used a pirated copy called "FlatOut (v1.1) [Steam]" that is shared since 2024. But I own FlatOut on Steam too, just thought the only version there is the one changed/updated by ZOOM which is not 1.1 and doesn't work with this mod.
But now, after reading your response I have installed [build_251753] on Steam. First install of this game, so there can't be any leftovers.
I ran the setup, then the game. Worked well.
After this I copied all the files and folders from Chloe's Collection.
....
... then I selected flatout.exe and hit Enter. Windows cursor shows working animation but game does not start. After 5 seconds cursor back to normal and flatout_d3d9.log appeared with this content:
Rename d3d9.dll to d3d9.dll.old. Game run but starting a race caused a crash with the same Fatal I/O error.

does it make the physics act like flatout 2 or does it stay as it was in flatout 1? If it changes the physics away from the original ones ill lose all interest
The physics are the same as in FlatOut 1, but you can change them in the settings by selecting Hardcore or Professional control mode. It feels like the speed of the cars has been increased, although maybe it's just me.
finally got around to trying it but i overread the gog notice. It seems i wont play this then. How vexing
