Isowulf is a fan-made reworking of Wolfenstein 3D that brings the classic 1992 shooter into an isometric perspective. The project is built on the modern Godot 4 engine, yet all original assets are preserved: sprites, textures, sounds, music, and level structure remain untouched. The only addition by the author is a sprite for B.J. Blazkowicz himself — who was naturally absent from the original first-person shooter.

The shift to isometry required a number of technical solutions. Since the levels were designed for a first-person view, new rooms and corridors only appear within sight once doors are opened, like a fog of war. Enemies are displayed only when there is a direct line of sight between them and the player: duck around a corner and the enemy vanishes from the screen. This option can be toggled in the settings.

The isometric camera also creates a certain imbalance: enemies sometimes spot the player before the player spots them. To compensate, the developer noticeably increased sprinting speed (with Shift). Toggleable bullet tracers were added separately — they help orient the player during firefights by making it immediately clear where fire is coming from. Items — ammo, medkits, keys — that may be hidden behind walls due to the fixed camera angle are marked with bright colored pillars of light. An automap and light aim assist with adjustable intensity are also present, along with optional blood effects.

Notably, the original level design by John Romero and Tom Hall withstood the perspective shift virtually unchanged: movement speeds, enemy AI behavior, and the hitscan shooting mechanics required no significant reworking.

The final version includes all six episodes of the original, including the Mecha-Hitler boss fight, and features save and load functionality, key rebinding, and per-level completion statistics.
