On the technical side, Wolfenstein 3D HD makes use of a wide range of LZWolf features: dynamic lighting, object scaling, halo lights, and a number of other visual techniques. Particularly noteworthy are the 128-position rotational sprites sourced from ZDoom Forums — they are significantly smoother than the defaults and give enemies a far more lifelike appearance when turning. Each level uses its own color translation tables (xlat), allowing for a unique atmosphere and distinct color palette across different episodes.
All original levels and gameplay are preserved without changes — the mod does not remake the game, only enhances its visuals.
This mod comes as close to an official remaster as possible and will appeal above all to those playing the game for the first time or looking to revisit it: the visual improvements make the game noticeably easier on the eyes without breaking the familiar feel of the original.
