C&C: Untitled is one of the most meticulously designed and high-quality mods for Generals: Zero Hour, which aims to preserve the spirit of the original game while significantly updating it visually and conceptually. This is not a total conversion or a complete reinterpretation mod: there are no new factions or fantastical technologies. Instead, Untitled expands existing armies, introduces new, lore-friendly units, improves classic models, enriches gameplay, and makes Zero Hour feel more modern without destroying the core design.
The mod heavily rethinks the visual aspect of the game: almost all units have received new or improved models and textures, explosion and weapon effects have become noticeably more spectacular, and sound and animations are refreshed. Infantry has also been overhauled: the authors reduced the scale of the models, achieving realistic proportions — no more "giant" rangers or huge motorcycles. Thanks to this, the battlefield looks more believable, and vehicles feel massive again.
In terms of content, Untitled adds a huge number of new combat units, buildings, and upgrades. Each faction now has a second technological building, unlocking an alternative set of upgrades and units, which deepens the development path without overloading the interface. New types of infantry have appeared (Chinese mortar and grenadier troops, GLA Fundamentalists, Javelins for the USA), new vehicles (e.g., the American "Stryker," the Chinese IFV "Shui" with changeable weapons), as well as powerful anti-air defenses and electronic warfare vehicles that temporarily disable enemy equipment. Defensive structures also have many changes: for example, the GLA can mount weapons on their tunnels — but this comes at the cost of sacrificing their transport function.
The main feature of the mod is the meticulous work on balance. Untitled is one of the most balanced mods for Zero Hour, with a clear "rock-paper-scissors" logic for unit interaction. The AI is also noticeably enhanced, and some Generals in the "Challenge" mode can be tougher than expected. However, overall, the mod feels like the "right" expansion of Zero Hour — deep, yet intuitive.
Despite all the praise, the mod is not without its controversial aspects. One could criticize the mod for the GLA and China having insufficient distinction between their Generals. The mod also replaces too many classic units, which might make it difficult for a newcomer to get oriented. There are also technical issues: unstable performance of some "Challenge" missions, rare crashes, and the absence of a campaign. Nevertheless, the mod is quite stable, well-optimized, and works even on weaker PCs.
Overall, C&C: Untitled is a powerful, stylish, and incredibly high-quality project that freshens up Zero Hour without breaking its formula. It combines modern models, re-scaled infantry, an improved atmosphere, deep balance, and a huge set of new content. This is one of those mods that every Generals fan should truly try — and one of the closest things to what an official Zero Hour remaster could have been.
