- Series:Command & Conquer
Command & Conquer: Generals is a cult real-time strategy game developed by EA Pacific, released in 2003, and became one of the most popular entries in the Command & Conquer series. Generals departed from the franchise’s traditional GDI vs. NOD storyline, offering a more "modern" conflict between three factions: the high-tech USA, the numerous and fanatical GLA, and the balanced China.
For the modding community, Generals (and especially its standalone expansion Zero Hour) has long been one of the most important platforms for creativity. The game featured a relatively flexible SAGE engine and advanced tools for its time, allowing for both cosmetic modifications and total conversions with new factions, campaigns, and gameplay mechanics.
Generals was the beginning of a golden age of major mods - from realistic military overhauls to full-scale sci-fi conversions. To this day, the game continues to inspire fan-made remakes and custom engines, with a still-active and passionate community.
In the modding scene, Command & Conquer: Generals is more than just a game - it’s a foundation upon which an entire generation of strategy fan projects has been built.
