Operation: Firestorm is one of the largest and most impressive mods for Generals Zero Hour. It significantly expands the game: adding 8 unique generals with their own ability trees, new units, buildings and superweapons, improving graphics, interface and sound, as well as expanding the tech tree.

Operation: Firestorm dramatically transforms Zero Hour, elevating the scale of modding to a full reimagining of the game. The project deeply changes mechanics, interface, visual effects and faction structure, and makes the AI bold and aggressive, essentially creating a new strategy game on the old engine.
Each general in Operation: Firestorm has been reworked and has their own set of units, buildings and upgrades:
USA
General Ironside - High Technology.
General Granger - Air Force. General Malcolm "Ace" Granger returns in Operation: Firestorm with many new additions to rain death from above on his enemies. Obviously, this general still has the best air force in this mod, this time combined with maneuverable hover-tanks and precision artillery.
General Wilson - SOCOM. General Arthur W. Wilson commands the United States Special Operations Command, one of the USA subfactions featured in Operation: Firestorm. His strike forces consist of elite infantry and light vehicles, supported by modern artillery and helicopters. While his strength lies in speed and infiltration, Wilson's armored divisions should not be underestimated.
China
General Xiang - Red Army. One of the new People's Liberation Army leaders featured in Operation: Firestorm is General Lei Xiang, commander of the Chinese Red Army, the main ground and strike forces of the PLA. Xiang sends masses of highly trained infantry into battle, along with China's most advanced tanks. His weakness in artillery is compensated by the unmatched power of his vehicles and soldiers.
General Tao - Nuclear Weapons. Tao has returned to service and expanded his nuclear arsenal even further. Tao's forces are centered around his experimental tanks and devastating artillery units. Additionally, his powerful air force consisting of nuclear-armed jets and strategic bombers provides ideal air support. WARNING: General Tao's military superiority comes at the cost of environmental damage.
General Leang - Secret Weapons.
GLA
General Assaf - Fortifications.
General Juhziz - Terror. The GLA terrorist cells, currently under the control of General Rodall Juhziz, return once again in Operation: Firestorm to make another attempt at seizing world domination. Juhziz's forces use stealth and suicide attack tactics to undermine enemy morale (and destroy their bases). The combination of fast vehicles, stealth units and defenses, along with devastating suicide attacks and artillery bombardments makes General Juhziz a deadly opponent.
General Dr. Thrax - Biochemical Weapons. Was planned but not added.
The modification is packed with new content — from units and buildings to unique weapon systems and effects that make battles spectacular and dynamic. The significantly improved AI acts aggressively and actively uses the capabilities of each subfaction, so the game requires players to think strategically and be able to react quickly.
All generals have a unique tree of 23 available abilities, which includes usable skills, upgrades and new units, although many of these units will be limited to a certain number to avoid breaking the balance. Even when your general reaches rank 5, you will continue to gain experience and unlock new abilities, with a total of 21 out of 23 abilities available to unlock.
Also, all generals who specialize in a certain area still have the full arsenal of weapons, they don't lose access to certain units like in the original game, although they do have some limitations.
Operation: Firestorm is aimed at players ready for new challenges and new rewards, offering a fresh take on the classic Generals formula and rewarding those who seek to discover new tactical combinations.
How to install a mod Operation: Firestorm
1) Requirements
WARNING: THIS INSTALLATION REPLACES SOME OF YOUR FILES! BACKUP YOUR GAME FOLDER OR ELSE YOU NEED TO REINSTALL ZH IF YOU WANT TO UNINSTALL THIS MOD.
IMPORTANT: This is a full release, no previous version of OFS should be installed.
This install should overwrite all files from the previous release, but just to be safe, make sure all OFS files from Beta01 are removed before installing Beta02.
Requirements:
A clean C&C Generals Zero Hour installation Patched to 1.4
What does clean mean? - No other mods. To be sure your ZH folder folder
should not have an "Art" subfolder and in "Data" there should be no "INI" folder.
And no file with the ending ".big" that does not belong to default C&C:Generals ZH may be there.
If you want to keep your Zero Hour folder clean, you can make a copy and install the mod
there. You can have multiple ZH's with different mods, I do this with all mods.
2) Add the mod files
Add all files from the archive into your Zero Hour folder (default or copied one).
It should look like this:
../Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour/!OFS_INI.big../Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour/!OFS_ART.big(and all other bigs)
It's the correct folder when default .bigs and generals.exe are there.
3) Setup the UI files
16:9 widescreen UI is enabled by default.
To enable 4:3 UI:
Remove the !OFS_WindowWide.big file
Rename !OFS_Window43.big.OFF to !OFS_Window43.big
4) Setup the language files
English language is enabled by default.
To enable German language, remove the !OFS_English.big and add !OFS_German.big to the game folder.
NOTE: For other language versions see the Extra section at the bottom of this file.
5) Optional: Install the Map-Pack
Extract the content of the MapPack archive into your "...\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Maps" folder.
6) Optional: HD Controlbar mod
We recommend that you install the HD Controlbar mod from here (http://www.gentool.net/download/controlbar/) to get the default icons and UI textures to match with the higher res Icons in OFS.
7) Activate OFS
No activation required in this version
8. Run OFS
Run 1 of the START bats. They will start in 1280x1024 or 1920x1080 resolution. If you have another resolution copy one of the bats and edit it.
Change the -xres and -yres arguments to your resolution, you can also add
-win (starts the game windowed)
-quickstart
-noshellmap
You can also just create a shortcut to generals.exe and put the commandline arguments there and set up the correct resolution in Options.ini in your Zero Hour Data folder.
EXTRA: Setting up a different language
(ONLY DO THIS IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN ENGLISH OR GERMAN VERSION OF THE GAME)
If you have a different language version of the game than English or German (which means you will get "MISSING:xxx" texts ingame and won't hear any new unit voices) but still want to have English (or German) texts/speech, then you'll have to manually edit the .big files:
Get FinalBIG (or some other .big editor), extract the files from !OFS_English.big (or German) to a temporary folder and rename all 'English' (or German' folders to your language version.
You then need to pack the files back into a new .big file and put it in your game folder.
You might need to adjust the Activate/Deactive .bat files to use the correct filenames.
