Smooth Doom is a visual mod for Doom and Doom II based on GZDoom that makes weapon, monster, and item animations noticeably smoother by adding numerous new frames while maintaining fidelity to the original gameplay.

The main goal of Smooth Doom is to improve the visual experience of the classic game by adding additional sprite frames to all types of weapons, enemies, items, and decorative objects without changing the base mechanics and balance of the original.
The mod is inspired by Smooth Weapon Animations by Per Kristian Risvik and the visual techniques of Brutal Doom, however unlike the latter it doesn't introduce mandatory gameplay changes. Animations become smoother and more "alive," resembling the style of games with rich frame-by-frame sprites like Metal Slug or Earthworm Jim.
Smooth Doom automatically adds dynamic lighting for rockets, power-ups, lamps and torches, expands the number of death and dismemberment animations for enemies, changes blood colors for individual demons, and enhances visual hit effects. Most opponents can now be torn apart, and the blood and particle effects themselves have become more varied and detailed.
The mod includes an extensive settings menu accessible directly in-game where additional features can be enabled or disabled. Among the optional functions are changing the Doomguy's glove color, using the Doom 64 weapon set with equally smooth animation, shell casings ejection, enhanced recoil effects, screen shake, additional death animation variants, and the ability to gut enemies with the chainsaw. Some features, such as "monster rebalancing," can also be enabled optionally and are not mandatory.
How to install a mod Smooth Doom
To run the mod, you will need the GZDoom engine and doom.wad, doom2.wad, or one of the FreeDoom IWADs
Make sure that doom.wad / doom2.wad or freedoom1.wad / freedoom2.wad is located in the GZDoom folder
Move the mod's .pk3 file to the GZDoom folder
Drag and drop the .pk3 file onto gzdoom.exe
Play!
You can also create a Launcher.bat. This is useful for launching more complex mod builds where the loading order of mods is important, or to launch the game via a shortcut.
How to create a launcher for running mods based on GZDoom
Create a text file in the GZDoom folder, you can name it Launcher. The text can look like this, depending on which files you're using:
gzdoom.exe -iwad freedoom2.wad -file "brutalv22test4.pk3"-iwad must always be first, and the number of files after -file can be unlimited, just write them in quotes separated by spaces, like this:
gzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file "addon1.pk3" "addon2.pk3" "addon3.pk3" "addon4.pk3"Change its format from .txt to .bat by simply renaming it. Now you can launch your builds with a double-click on this launcher.
