Star Trek Doom is the result of many years of work by its author, begun back in 1997. The inspiration came from frustration with existing Star Trek Doom levels: plain textures, low-quality sprites, and scenery that didn't match the show.

Since then, the project has gone from losing its source files to fully restoring all levels, sprites, textures, and sounds, becoming more expansive and detailed than ever. All old locations have been reworked, new areas added, and visual effects improved, creating a truly living world of the Enterprise D within the limits of the Doom engine.

You play as a young lieutenant tasked with checking shuttle upgrades when a futuristic Borg cube suddenly emerges from a temporal portal and deals a devastating blow to the Enterprise. After Species 8472 destroys the Borg cube, you return to the ship to help the crew in battle and attempt to restore control of the Enterprise.

Enemies

Borg — a cybernetic race that opened a temporal portal and returned to assimilate the Enterprise and its crew.

  • Borg Drones — weak weaponry, but high defense and the ability to assimilate.

  • Tactical Drones — enhanced for combat operations, heavy armament.

  • Assimilated Personnel (science, command, security) — use whatever weapons they had when assimilated; security officers are particularly dangerous.

  • Borg Queen (boss) — personally leads the invasion, uses a cybernetic suit with powerful disruptor cannons in combat.

Species 8472 — a xenophobic race from fluidic space that followed the Borg through the temporal portal and destroyed their cube.

  • Soldiers — incredibly strong, melee combat is extremely dangerous.

  • Telekinesis Breed — attacks at range, but equally deadly in melee.

  • Broodlings — the young generation, attacks quickly and injects a poison that destroys organs.

  • Commander (boss) — controls a bioship, armed with handheld biological weapons capable of destroying Borg cubes and entire planets.

Allies and Characters

  • Enterprise Crew — surviving officers fighting for survival. Be careful with wide-beam weapons near them!

  • Lieutenant Worf — tactical officer and chief of security, will assist in difficult situations.

  • Commander Riker — often leads dangerous away missions, can be a valuable ally.

  • Captain Picard — following his past assimilation by the Borg, he is determined to save the ship and crew, willing to do anything for retribution.

Weapons

  • Type I Phaser Pistol — the basic starting phaser, a weak weapon for the beginning.

  • Overloaded Plasma Torch — deadly dangerous in melee combat.

  • Dual Type I and II Phaser Pistols — powerful rapid fire, but drains energy quickly.

  • Type III Phaser Rifle (Mark II) — the primary weapon of the security division, high power and accurate fire.

  • Mobile Photon Torpedo Launcher — a miniaturized version of torpedo weaponry, enormous blast radius.

  • Tetryon Pulse Launcher — a large, heavy energy discharge weapon, rarely used by humans, and an extremely powerful armament.

How to install a mod Star Trek Doom Project

To run the mod, you will need the GZDoom engine and doom.wad, doom2.wad, or one of the FreeDoom IWADs

  1. Make sure that doom.wad / doom2.wad or freedoom1.wad / freedoom2.wad is located in the GZDoom folder

  2. Move the mod's STDoom.wad file to the GZDoom folder

  3. Drag and drop the STDoom.wad file onto gzdoom.exe

  4. Play!

You can also create a Launcher.bat. This is useful for launching more complex mod builds where the loading order of mods is important, or to launch the game via a shortcut.

How to create a launcher for running mods based on GZDoom

Create a text file in the GZDoom folder, you can name it Launcher. The text can look like this, depending on which files you're using:

gzdoom.exe -iwad freedoom2.wad -file "brutalv22test4.pk3"

-iwad must always be first, and the number of files after -file can be unlimited, just write them in quotes separated by spaces, like this:

gzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file "addon1.pk3" "addon2.pk3" "addon3.pk3" "addon4.pk3"

Change its format from .txt to .bat by simply renaming it. Now you can launch your builds with a double-click on this launcher.
