Unreal is a futuristic first-person shooter released in 1998 by Epic MegaGames studio. The game immediately attracted attention with its atmosphere, detailed levels, and advanced graphics for its time, implemented on Unreal Engine 1.

The player found themselves on the mysterious planet Na Pali, where they explored ancient ruins, battled alien creatures, and gradually uncovered the mystery of the hostile Skaarj race. Even at launch, the game stood out from competitors with its unique artistic style and deep world.

The story campaign combined elements of science fiction and horror, forcing the player to explore a world full of traps, secrets, and dangerous enemies. Unreal offered an unusual combination for that time of open spaces and enclosed locations, where each level had its own atmosphere and puzzles. Besides combat, the player actively interacted with the environment, solved puzzles, and collected useful items, which made the gameplay more diverse.

Multiplayer also left a notable mark in the history of the genre. Although the main focus was on the single-player campaign, network battles on Unreal maps were popular among fans, especially with the emergence of modifications and new maps created by the community. It was thanks to this that the game gained a long life: even years after release, the community actively supported the project through mods, patches, and new maps.

Today, Unreal is perceived as a classic of the FPS genre. Its artistic style, innovations in lighting and level design influenced many subsequent games.
