Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a real-time strategy game released in 1996 by Westwood Studios, serving as a prequel to Tiberian Dawn. The game quickly gained popularity thanks to its alternate history setting, where Albert Einstein eliminates Hitler, triggering a global war between the Soviet Union and the Allies.
The player commands one of the factions, builds bases, harvests resources, and engages in battles on land, sea, and air. Red Alert introduced naval combat, spies, transport ships, and experimental technologies like Tesla weapons and chronoshift devices. It preserved the core C&C gameplay while expanding its depth and strategic variety.
Campaign scenarios, trademark live-action cutscenes, charismatic factions, and a legendary soundtrack make Red Alert one of the most beloved RTS games of the '90s.
Today, Red Alert remains a cornerstone of the classic RTS scene. Thanks to OpenRA, the modding community continues to thrive - creating reworked campaigns, balance patches, visual upgrades, and total conversions on modern engines. The game inspires both creative mods and competitive tournaments.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert endures as a cultural icon and one of the most modded RTS titles in gaming history.
