DOOMablo is a mod for GZDoom inspired by BorderDoom and Doom: Infinite, which combines the dynamic action of Doom with Diablo's loot and progression system. The game becomes a full-fledged looter shooter: you destroy hordes of demons, collect randomly generated weapons and armor, strengthen your character, and gradually improve the quality of your loot.
The mod has overhauled all DOOM weapons (except fists), as well as monsters — they now support randomization. Items receive random names, over 100 possible affixes, and a quality system that affects characteristics. There are rarity tiers — from common to mythic, as well as a progression system that gradually improves loot as you play through.
The player gains experience, levels up, and improves character stats. Most weapons now have recoil and reloading, so you need to configure mouselook and the reload button. Stronger enemies drop more valuable loot. There are no save restrictions — play however you like.
The mod works with Doom and Doom II, is compatible with most map packs and Nashgore, but doesn't support mods that change weapons or armor.
Before Playing
Go to DOOMablo settings to configure necessary keys.
Use fullscreen HUD to see DOOMablo interface elements. The status bar (standard DOOM interface) won't work! Just press the "+" key if, for example, you don't see item stats.
Enable mouselook!
If monster health bars look strange or unreadable, try adjusting them in DOOMablo settings.
How to install a mod DOOMablo
To run the mod, you will need the GZDoom engine and doom.wad, doom2.wad, or one of the FreeDoom IWADs
Make sure that doom.wad / doom2.wad or freedoom1.wad / freedoom2.wad is located in the GZDoom folder
Move the mod's .pk3 file to the GZDoom folder
Drag and drop the .pk3 file onto gzdoom.exe
Play!
You can also create a Launcher.bat. This is useful for launching more complex mod builds where the loading order of mods is important, or to launch the game via a shortcut.
How to create a launcher for running mods based on GZDoom
Create a text file in the GZDoom folder, you can name it Launcher. The text can look like this, depending on which files you're using:
gzdoom.exe -iwad freedoom2.wad -file "brutalv22test4.pk3"-iwad must always be first, and the number of files after -file can be unlimited, just write them in quotes separated by spaces, like this:
gzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file "addon1.pk3" "addon2.pk3" "addon3.pk3" "addon4.pk3"Change its format from .txt to .bat by simply renaming it. Now you can launch your builds with a double-click on this launcher.
