Postal: Red Letter Day - a total conversion for GZDoom that reimagines the classic Postal (1997) in the spirit of an FPS. The game lets you experience Postal Dude's chaotic bloody rampage from a first-person perspective.

The action unfolds in Paradise, Arizona, where the line between conspiracy and madness has long been erased, and the protagonist has no time to figure out what's happening - only to forge his way forward by any means necessary.

Players must journey from their home neighborhood to a heavily guarded military complex, leaving destruction in their wake. However, what's happening isn't mindless slaughter: survival requires accuracy, quick reactions, and dodging skills. The locals are armed and ready to fight back, so ammunition management and combat positioning matter greatly.

The combat system is built around a bullet hell feel: bullets and projectiles are constantly flying around that need to be tracked, dodged, and even ducked under. Enemies have "smart" behavior - they move, dodge, shoot, and react to what's happening almost the same way as the player.

Visually, the mod consists almost entirely of unique sprites and textures - you'll hardly find standard Doom assets or graphics from other classic shooters here. Paradise is filled with new characters and locations that weren't in the original Postal, so this is not a remake, but a reimagining of the original game.

A special feature is the ability to load any favorite Doom map set and turn it into Postal: weapons, enemies, and even civilians can be added on top of third-party levels using an additional file.

How to install a mod POSTAL: Red Letter Day

To run the mod, you will need the GZDoom engine and doom.wad, doom2.wad, or one of the FreeDoom IWADs

  1. Make sure that doom.wad / doom2.wad or freedoom1.wad / freedoom2.wad is located in the GZDoom folder

  2. Move the mod's .pk3 files to the GZDoom folder. The archive contains 4 .pk3 files:

    • PostalRLD-HomeDemo.pk3 — main file

    • PostalRLD-GZDpost4-11Patch.pk3 — required to run the game in GZDoom version 4.11 and above

    • PostalRLD-GZDpre4-11Patch.pk3 — required to run the game in GZDoom versions with ZScript below 4.11 and 4.5 and above

    • PostalRLD-NonTC_Civilians.pk3 — MUST NOT BE LOADED WHEN PLAYING THE "HOME" LEVEL! Adds civilians to DOOM maps based on Fodder Spawner from Project Malice with minimal changes.

  3. Drag and drop the .pk3 files onto gzdoom.exe

  4. Play!

You can also create a Launcher.bat. This is useful for launching more complex mod builds where the loading order of mods is important, or to launch the game via a shortcut.

How to create a launcher for running mods based on GZDoom

Create a text file in the GZDoom folder, you can name it Launcher. The text can look like this, depending on which files you're using:

gzdoom.exe -iwad freedoom2.wad -file "brutalv22test4.pk3"

-iwad must always be first, and the number of files after -file can be unlimited, just write them in quotes separated by spaces, like this:

gzdoom.exe -iwad doom2.wad -file "addon1.pk3" "addon2.pk3" "addon3.pk3" "addon4.pk3"

Change its format from .txt to .bat by simply renaming it. Now you can launch your builds with a double-click on this launcher.
