When you launch the game, you will be asked if you want the game to automatically update when a new version is released. You can agree, and the game will require an internet connection, or decline, and it will be fully offline.

You will be able to play two types of games: the original and with the expansion. The expansion is translated into only two languages — English and German, but this may change in the future.
