FlatOut 2 is an arcade racing simulator developed by Bugbear Entertainment - the creators of Rally Trophy, one of the best rally simulators. The renowned car and crash physics of Rally Trophy became a defining feature of the FlatOut series.
Compared to the first FlatOut, several key changes were introduced:
The focus shifted from slow derby cars and narrow twisty tracks to street-class vehicles and large, fast tracks filled with jumps and destructible objects.
Collision physics were improved: now players can smash through many trackside elements without the driver flying through the windshield - and even get extra nitro for it.
Enhanced tire grip allowed cars to reach much higher speeds. On some tracks and with certain vehicles, it’s even possible to drive along walls during turns.
This created a unique gameplay experience that still retains veteran players and attracts newcomers. According to Steam stats, the game remains one of the most played in its genre, despite its age. Multiplayer is still active, and players even organize their own tournaments.
Thanks to its popularity, the game has a rich modding scene. Despite lacking official tools, enthusiasts found ways to create large-scale modifications affecting nearly every aspect of the game.
