Stronghold Legends is an experimental entry in the series, released in 2006 by FireFly Studios. Built on the base of Stronghold 2, it replaces realism with a legendary fantasy style, offering players battles with mythical heroes, magic, and monsters.

The game steps away from historical realism and introduces three unique campaigns based on the legends of King Arthur, Siegfried, and Vlad the Impaler. Each faction has its own features, architecture, units, and spells. Heroes with special abilities, dragons, ice giants, and other mythical creatures expand the classic Stronghold gameplay.

While Legends lacks the internal castle-life simulation found in Stronghold 2, it compensates with a more dynamic experience, easier learning curve, and stronger focus on combat and unique mechanics.

Campaigns, single missions, multiplayer, and a map editor are available from the start. Despite technical engine limitations and the absence of economic depth, the game earns recognition for its fresh concept and unconventional direction for the series.

The modding scene for Legends is noticeably smaller than that of Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader, but user-made maps, scenarios, and fan patches still exist, including performance tweaks and new elements.

Today, Stronghold Legends is seen as an unusual and bold experiment - not a canonical sequel, but a parallel take on the series formula with fantasy elements. It became a starting point for fans who prefer a more "storybook" aesthetic over traditional RTS gameplay.
