Cossacks II: Battle for Europe is a standalone expansion for the real-time strategy game Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars, developed by GSC Game World and released in 2006. The expansion broadens the series’ chronological scope, returning to the 17th-18th centuries and covering major European conflicts of that era.
Compared to Napoleonic Wars, Battle for Europe restores a wider historical period and adds new nations, units, and maps, while retaining the simplified economy and building mechanics. The game emphasizes greater strategic variety through new factions and unique features for each. The expansion offers single-player campaigns, skirmish modes, and multiplayer battles, including online and local play.
Battle for Europe received mixed but generally positive reviews. Players and critics praised the expanded historical coverage, new nations, and large-scale battles, along with improved graphics. However, some criticized the lack of innovation and the simplified economy and building mechanics that remained unchanged from the previous installment.
Although core mechanics stayed simplified as in Napoleonic Wars, the expansion allows for a deeper immersion in European history and diversifies gameplay while preserving the large-scale battles and tactical depth appreciated by fans of the series.
