Sonic Robo Blast (1998) is an early fan-made 2D platformer based on the Sonic the Hedgehog series. The project was created by enthusiasts as an attempt to capture the speed and style of classic Sonic games in an amateur interpretation, using the simple technologies of the late 90s.
The gameplay is built around the series' traditional formula: fast runs through levels, platform jumping, ring collecting and encounters with Eggman's robots. The levels follow a linear 2D structure, with an emphasis on forward movement and overcoming obstacles characteristic of the classic Sonic entries.
Visually, the game looks as simple as possible: sprite graphics, minimalist backgrounds and basic animation. This underscores its status as a fan project created without the resources of official studios.
Today, Sonic Robo Blast is regarded as a rare early fan experiment, reflecting an attempt to bring the spirit of Sonic the Hedgehog into independent development of the late 90s — before the emergence of more well-known and technically advanced fan games in the series.
