You've probably always wanted to improve your quality of life in FlatOut 2, and these mods will make multiplayer noticeably more comfortable — without cheats, hacks, or any other "magical" ways to suddenly outrun everyone. These are legal and useful modifications that give no direct advantage over other players, though they may provide an indirect one.

FlatOut 2 MP Nitro Fix

A mod that fixes an old game bug where, in multiplayer mode, the activation of nitro by opponents was not shown — you could see that an opponent was accelerating sharply, but it was unclear why. Some newcomers might even have thought the player was cheating, when in fact they simply couldn't see, due to the bug, that the opponent had activated nitro.

FlatOut 2 Colored Player List

A small but handy mod that shows all players' health levels in the side menu by changing the color of their nickname, with a gradient from white to red. Especially useful in derby mode, but helpful in races too.

MapZoom

A mod that lets you change the map scale — 8 options in total. The original minimap has a rather large scale, showing only a small section of the track ahead and behind you, so you can't fully assess your opponents' positions. With this mod you can fully customize the map to your liking.

FO2 Taskbar Highlight + Sound

A mod that makes waiting for new players in the lobby more comfortable. You can minimize the game and do other things on your PC — but as soon as a player joins the lobby, you'll hear a sound alert and the taskbar icon will start flashing. You'll never end up in a situation where people are ready to play while you're unintentionally AFK.

FO2 Nick Changer

You may have noticed that some players have nicknames that are very long or contain special characters. With this mod you can bypass the standard 31-character nickname limit and set a nickname up to 200 characters long using special characters.

BetterChat

A simple but brilliant mod that replaces the game's old chat with a new one — fully compatible with the original (messages written in the new chat are visible to people without the mod in the old chat, and vice versa).

The old chat is basic and buggy — in one update a bug caused it to stop supporting Cyrillic, leaving some players unable to write in their native language. The new chat fixes this and adds many new features:

• Automatic translation of your messages and other players' messages into 5 languages: English, Spanish, Russian, German, and Turkish. Ever wanted to know what players are writing in languages you don't understand — maybe they're talking about you? Now you can understand them, and write back in their language!

• Emoji support. The world has changed a lot in the 20 years since the game came out. Many people simply can't communicate without emoji — this mod lets you skip the long messages and send a single emoji instead of a thousand words.

• Quick messages during a race. Races can be very emotional — now you don't have to hold back until the race is over to share your feelings. Press a single key to send one of 10 pre-set messages, or type a custom message manually, right during the race or while waiting for other participants to finish.

FlatOut 2 - Narrowed HUD for Ultrawide Monitors

Some gamers now use ultrawide monitors, and FlatOut 2, due to its age, is not well suited for them. This mod adds ultrawide monitor support to the game — you'll have a better view of what's happening on the sides of your car, which may give you a certain legitimate advantage.

0x Crashout Nitro Fix

A small mod that fixes an old FlatOut 2 bug where, in multiplayer races with 0x nitro, a small amount of nitro is awarded after the driver is ejected from the car during a crash. Players without this mod will still receive the nitro as before, so installing it will only slow you down — but if you value fair racing and perhaps compete in tournaments, this mod may be useful.

FO2 Speedometer in Derby / FO2 Derby Gear Indicator

Two similar mods that accomplish almost the same thing in two different ways. The first lets you enable the speedometer in derby mode — useful for shifting gears if you use a manual transmission. The second simply displays the current gear without hiding your car's health bar.

Bonus

FlatOut 2 Time Trial Ghosts

A bonus mod that will help improve your driving skills. It's designed for single-player, but by racing against your own ghost on tracks cleared of debris, you can sharpen your skills. Your fastest laps are saved, and you can return at any time to beat your record. Additionally, some professional players on speedrun.com who also use this mod may share their own ghosts — you can use them to try to beat their time, or simply understand the secret behind their speed.
